The Redefiners’ Writing Challenge Longlist for 2020

The Redefiners Writing Challenge was initiated by Omonefe O. Eruotor, the founder of Redefiners’; with the desire to scout for young writers, help them find their voice and realize that they can contribute to making the world a better place. The maiden edition, tagged ‘Lockdown Edition’, organized in partnership with Chowilson, The Bookworm Café and Pulchra Publishing, encouraged participants to give attention to the precautionary measures prescribed by WHO and share their views on the current global lockdown; by writing a freestyle flash fiction piece with the theme – My Ideal Lockdown Experience.

Entries were reviewed by a panel made up of four judges – Tesiri Moweta, Farida-Ladipo-Ajayi, Ann Esievoadje and Pamela Agboga, selected based on their expertise as authors, editors and literary geniuses. They reviewed all entries and graded them accordingly, resulting in the generation of the list of participants who will be moving on to the final stage of the competition.

All finalists will participate in a virtual interactive session and masterclass on the 1st of August, where they will undergo training in creative writing and receive answers to questions they have. Their stories will be published in the contest anthology and each of them will receive a certificate of participation and a copy of the anthology when it is published. Furthermore, the top three finalists in each age category will be named on the 8th of August, 2020, at the virtual closing ceremony. Cash prizes of N50,000 (1st Prize), 30,000 (2nd Prize) and 20,000 (3rd Prize) will be presented to them.

The Redefiners Writing Challenge is a yearly contest and the next edition will hold in 2021.
